My first guess was Hmong as well. Beautiful intricate work...worthy of displaying IMHO.

My sister-in-law from Laos had family members that did this kind of handwork-- I confirm the thought that it's Hmong.

I agree with Hmong embroidery. But this is reverse applique. I have a wall hanging by the Hmong that is all animals and birds. The Hmong embroidery has 200 stitches to the inch. There are a lot of Hmong here in Wisconsin but the younger ones are not leaning this art. Sad.

Beautiful. I can't say that I remember seeing that before, but I've now been educated. Lovely handwork and you got them for a great price.
