Quilt from the closet released
When my mom passed away we found about 20 quilt blocks in her sewing closet and since I was the only sewer in the family I inherited them. At the time I was not a "quilter" but they peeked my interest and I was determined to try to put them together into a quilt. I asked my 2 aunts if they knew where the blocks came from or who started them and they had no knowledge of history. Some of these were hand sewn and stitches were very straight and uniform, the blocks are scrappy and fabric is a variety of weaves. I showed them to a friend at work, who took them home and carefully washed and block dried for me. I then put them back in the closet and started my quilting journey (glad I waited) this was in 2006. I got them out yesterday and decided that I needed to finish this unknown quilt before it got thrown away by one of my kids going through my stuff. First thing I needed to do was get a straight edge on the blocks, it looks like the material was ripped not cut and there are no straight lines on any of the blocks. I am going to use my Westalee rulers to QAYG the blocks and then will decide how big to square to (currently they are about 18x18 give or take), will do a sashing to connected the quilted blocks. The pictures were before I trimmed to get a straight edge and get rid of the ruffles. I will update as I make progress.
