Default Quilt from scraps

I don't do scrap quilts normally, though I have many, many in my stash. Most of the time I am too anxious to begin the next project and am tired of looking at the fabrics I have used in that quilt to turn around and make another. I am also too OCD to just throw random scraps together and usually sew from a pattern exclusively. After finishing my latest, seen here: Tween quilt for our grand daughter I had 198 - 2 1/2" HSTs left from doing all the rather large flying geese. I knew if I didn't do something with them immediately, they would remain in a drawer, along with all the remaining scraps of background fabric etc. Out of my comfort zone, I started putting stars together, then pinwheels.
Here is the finished quilt, all scraps except for an additional yard of background that I had earmarked for a pillowcase.....and surprisingly I love it, scrappy and all. It will be backed in Minkee with a gray binding.

You can see the 5 different background fabrics pretty easily in this picture.
It finished at 53" x 61" and is ready to quilt.

That is such an engaging quilt! I like the different sizes of blocks seemingly scattered, and the figures on the background fabrics contribute something intriguing to the whole design. Really nice.

Did you use a pattern or design it yourself?

If you designed it, it's a pattern I would consider buying.

Love it! DH liked it, too.

Thank you for your compliment bearispray. It is just made with 2" and 4" finished pinwheels, and 8" stars made of the scrap 2 1/2" unfinished HSTs. The stars are laid out in a 3,2,3,2,3,2 layout (or 5 x 6) with the adjoining 8" blocks made of 2 - 4" sqs., 1 - 2" sq. and 1 - 2" x 4" rectangle of background, 1 - 4" pinwheel, and 1 - 2" pinwheel (all finished sizes). By rotating the adjoining blocks you can get the scattered look of the pinwheels.

I love this quilt, pinwheels are a favorite. I never would have guessed this was a pattern made from scraps. Really like the grays you used for background and all the bright colors.
