great idea using the crumbs on tape and incorporating them into the blocks. So much more interesting than solid lines

    What a unique look!
Great name, River Sticks ... I see the sticks as being birch trees floating along!
This could work nicely in other colour combos too, I am sure.

Curious? did you start with layer cake size?
For the random cuts, did you stack a bunch together? Or cut each piece on its own?
And then I am guessing, you would have to trim them all down to size.

Great idea to stabilize the crumbs B+W pieces onto adding machine tape!!

Well Done ... Maybe you should keep it permanently, instead of just for awhile?

I've been wanting to do a similar pattern for a while - and yours is even better than what I had imagined. I especially like your use of scraps for the sticks.

I just made a similar top with 1” sticks in solid black. I imagine it was much harder to deal with the sticks made of crumbs, but what a great idea. The quilt turned out wonderful. Very nice work.

The blues are perfect for the colors of a river and the sticks well, if you keep scraps that small, then putting them to use is a win/win. Creative and innovative A winner!

I did not use layer cakes, but that would certainly make sense and be easier. I happened to have some yardage cuts that I used and cut up. blocks were trimmed to 11.5 inches (finished at 11"). I did cut all of them individually. again, would've been easier to stack them. Oh well, I don't always have the best planning!

Check out another recent picture posted called Layer Chops. Her quilt inspired me to post my quilt and shows a different colorway and slightly different style.

Such a simple pattern but ends up so striking!
