I can only imagine how surprised your son's friend was when you told him the quilt was being made for him! You are so talented to come up with the design. Enjoyed reading the back story of how the quilt grew into a bed size.

Hi. Thank you. The applique was first attached via fusible web then zig-zagged stitch down in a close near satin stitch. Some of the lines in the ship were first drawn on and then stitched over using the same zig-zag stitch. This is how I attach all appliqued designs if I am not hand appliqueing. My version of securing down applique work in the event the quilt it heavily used.
