Yes, that is the way I do it! I love to do my own designs, especially with traditional quilting patterns. The preprinted tops are beautiful but I must admit that I don't like the quality of the fabric of the ones available here in Germany.

I've used a Hobbs 80/20 batting - it's easy to needle and one of my favourite battings.
