Is there some sort of secret to knowing how to put your scraps together so that they will look good together in a log cabin quilt??
Sandrea, Wildcard described the process well. The only thing I would add is this. Sometimes I had trouble deciding if a medium colored fabric would go better with the lights or the darks. Then I would go to the photo app on my smartphone and view the fabric through a black and white filter. It's amazing how some colors look to be the same "intensity" in color but are definitely "light" or "dark" in black and white. And some colors can go either way. Trust me, I truly used every fabric I had and didn't pay attention to whether it went with the others or not. You can do it too.

Thank you to loisf and Wildyard for the info. You both have given me some encouragement to give it a try. I have always been afraid to try it because I didn't want to waste the time or my scraps only to end up with something that looks like a mess and then the quilt never comes out of the closet. ha I'm going to give it a try now. If it doesn't take me too long, I will try to post picture if I can complete one......"come on Sandrea get to work. ha"

Tartan 's scraps are about like mine. I do try to organize ever so often. Last time I made 19 strip quilts for donation to battered women. Need to do that again.

Your quilt is beautiful! I started cutting my scrapes a little over a year ago after reading "Scrap Therapy, Cutting the Scraps". I kept looking at my boxes of scraps and wondering if I'd ever use them and so seeing what you have accomplished helped so much.
Unfortunately I let the basket get to full while I was working on Christmas quilts so I've spent the last three days cutting scraps instead of working on my January UFO project! I guess if I decide not to use them I will find someone who wants pretty little pre-cut scraps.

Lois, your log cabin top is great! And the strings units too. It's so nice to organize, and make something from the treasured scraps pile, isn't it?
