Scrap quilt for friend dying of cancer
#34
I have never heard of a Passage Quilt. Does a family member receive the quilt after the passing of their loved one?
It is a beautiful quilt and your friend is going to love having it near her. What a sweet spirit you have. God bless you beyond measure.

That is so special. I read your post and started crying. When my husbands Mom passed, I would not let them take my MIL out of our home with her head covered or didn't want them putting her in a bag. I had taken care of her 24-7 for a year. She deserved the respect. How much better a quilt over her would have been. Thanks so much for caring. You touched my heart.

We make a lot of Passage quilts and we use this pattern for them now. A Passage quilt is used to cover a body bag as it is removed from a home, hospital or nursing home. We have given them to nursing homes, assisted livings, hospitals, and funeral homes in all the communities surrounding us. Our goal is to show the families that someone cares about their loss and hope they will be comforted by that. In the nursing homes, when our friends pass, the residents don't turn away when they are taken from the home but turn and bow their heads in respect. A quilt makes it a kinder gentler sight.

You have a beautiful heart. I've never heard of a passage quilt before, but I am going to tell my sister about them. She worked as a hospice nurse practitioner and now, at the age of 69, she is working as a minister. I'm sure she will love the idea. Thank you for sharing.
