Sweet little quilt! Good for you to use those corners.
Here's a tip: When I make snowball or flying geese blocks by sewing diagonally across squares, I sew on the OTHER side of the diagonal line, too. When I cut on the line, I have made an HST to use later with very little extra effort. I often use them on the same quilt - either in the border or on the back.
