I wanted to make a 'free' quilt so I can practice my quilting on my mid arm machine. So I got my stash out and took inspiration from the Shannondoah Valley pattern. Here's the WIP.

That is going to be just lovely. I so prefer your scrappy stars over the original pattern!

I really like that! Much nicer than the pattern you are working from.

That is so pretty. I think the scrappy look is much nicer than the pattern itself and your flying geese are wonderful! Gives me ideas.

LOL! I love my 9000. Had it for 15 years. I have a FW too, I like to switch back and forth. Kinda like driving a VW Bug and Cadillac.

This is looking great! Can't wait to see it progress. I also find it much more visually interesting then the planned color layout in the pattern. I find myself drawn more and more to scrappy or planned scrappy. I wonder if it is phase I am going through?

Scrappy is so much harder than just cutting lots of pieces of just a few fabrics. There is a personality and memories in this piece that you will always love. It is good to have a good piece to practice your skills on. You will do a much better job, because it counts. This is a KEEPER
