If you are using a walking foot, make sure the screw didn't come loose and check to see that it is on the needle screw where it needs to be. Sometimes they slip!
Is it a computerized machine or a mechanical?
What brand is it?

Ut, oh! It has the automatic lift on it, correct?
My D1 had a similar problem and something had come loose inside, don't ask me how. It may need a trip to the dealer but I'd try calling them first. Maybe they can suggest some other things.
I used to work for Viking dealer but I've been away from it for a while and gotten a little rusty on troubleshooting.
