since you are using your domestic machine, i suggest you mark the design to get it consistent. It is difficult on the domestic as you can't see a large area. Long arms are different as you do see large areas and can guage. So go to the marking and eventually you will be able to get the rhythm to do larger overall patterns. Also, not knowing how your sewing area is set up, suggest you add card tables so you can spread out the quilt more and thereby able to see large areas.

Keep up the good work, isn't free motion quilting fun? and the tuts on you tube are so helpful, keeps me inspired to do more - always practicing... ;-)
