I have the pattern printed out, have the red thread, and just need to wash the white fabric.

Did you use a stabilizer on the back of the fabric as you embroidered the pillow piece? I like how you used the fabrics around to make the pillow larger.

I just finished this embroidery pattern - great fun. I did mine in traditional redwork using perle cotton. Now to turn it into a pillow. Good project for today. Your neighbor will love it.

No, I didn't use a stabilizer this time as per Alex's suggestion. In the past I have added a piece of muslin and when I did my Winter Wonderland quilt I used a thin batting as my backing. I didn't consider it a stabilizer but more a place to hide my threads as I traveled from one shape or letter to the next. Alex suggests stopping and starting, not traveling.....so I did her way for "her" pattern, but would probably do a combination on a larger piece.

And what a lovely gift for your friend.

I had never knotted at the start, but instead would whip stitch it to stabilize.
Only discovered the one thread "U" method a couple of years ago.
So obvious, but why had we never heard of it before?

I didn't know Alex Anderson was into embroidery, so must check her out.
Are you familiar with Mary Corbet? She is one that I have been learning from ....
