    Yes you need a small border before putting on the final border. It makes it stand out.

    I love putting a narrow border before putting the larger one on as IMO it "frames" the quilt, your choice is perfect for such a lovely quilt.

    One teacher I had somewhere along the way referred to that small border as a "popper" and that is exactly what it does on this quilt. Nice job.
