Well since most of your fabs are repro depression type and old fashioned calicoes, and since you mentioned hand quilting.......just straight in ditch thru the pinwheels across white background and just keep going thru the stars. If you do that in each fin it will just be diagonal and straight line quilting but it will fill everything in nicely and evenly. Thread? Again, old fashioned white thread---hugging that black stained lines will be fine. Jmho

This is one of those quilts where the fabric is the star! Spectacular and beautiful. As to the quilting... maybe something simple like a 1/4" inside the octagons and down the center of the "framing" pieces around the octagon. This is definitely superb eye candy.
