I was looking for some linens in a storage box yesterday, and came across this "masterpiece" - my very first quilt! I think that I created this at least 25 years ago. The sheer awfulness of this thing makes me happy that I've learned a bit more since then! But I suppose it's good to hold onto a piece of my quilting history. This actually hung on the wall of my apartment in a hallway.... guess I was pretty proud of it! (I think the coral blocks bring a new meaning to the words "it will quilt out" - and obviously it didn't!)

The full view....

Check out the lovely finishing detail at the border....

How about this fantastic stitching in the ditch on the wonky blocks?!

Hey! We all started somewhere! I wasn't even brave enough to quilt my first one.

I love it! I guess I need to get my first one out too. Your's is a blue ribbon compared to mine:) Your should be very proud of your first quilt! The learning process must begin somewhere:)

Some of my older ones end up looking like yours and that's ok by me because they just needed to get done and out of my way ;)

It is truly marvellous. Use it as a snuggler when it gets draughty in winter. You can get it grubby and won't care when it wears out. This quilt has a great future.

The layout shows some creativity, so I think it pretty amazing for a first quilt. Happily my first quilt is long gone. I'm currently hand quilting my second quilt (which is truly hideous), but I'd like it be off my UFO list before it's 20 years old.

Agreed -- my first one was flannel with double high loft poly batting and ohhhhhh what a mess when it was washed!!!!! (Back then, never dreamed how much flannel would shrink!!)

I LOVE your first quilt - very unique design and looks very comfy!

My first quilt was made about 40 years ago and is in my closet - unfinished. But, was machine quilted a few years ago when a friend called me up and said that she was selling her long-arm the next day and if I had any tops to be quilted to rush to her house. So, I took this UFO and she quilted it - but I am too embarassed to even put a binding on it. My sister-in-law (a quilter) told me to make a simple pattern for the first quilt(s) but NO, I did not listen.
