    I did use a pattern. It's called "A Few Pointers" by Crooked Nickel Quilt Designs. I just cut the fabric and strips according to the pattern directions. The Pellon Quilters Grid makes it really easy and fast. You iron the pieces to the grid and then sew each seam with 1/4 inch seam. Once all the seams are sewn it's finished. I like it because the seams line up perfect which just piecing doesn't always do. It makes it a bit stiffer than just piecing but it's fine for something on a table. I just stitched in the ditch to quilt it all together and bound like normal. The pattern says use flannel but I didn't have any so I just used some Warm and Natural that I had. I didn't like it at all until I saw the picture of it. It's amazing how different things look in a picture compared to just looking at them.     The loud colored batik is also one of their patterns called "A Simple Point". I added an outside border to it because I wanted it to be a little larger.
