Beautiful! Great use of colors, and I, too, am interested in seeing it put together.

A "caned seat" on a kitchen chair is woven reed, looking much like your block, only on a much finer scale. I love the name of it, when you said what it was, I instantly thought of the old caned seats. We don't see them much any more.

LOLOL, OMG, you know what? I knew that!
I was watching a program a while ago and they explained just that, and in my head I went "Oh, so THAT's why that pattern is called that"... I guess I just forgot that I knew, lol!

Looks very nice, but makes me dizzy. That's just my eyes tho, not the pattern.

You are good!! I'd get one block done and that would be it because I know the other ones wouldn't match up... Your friend is very lucky!

it's all been said...love the colors, looks difficult, make me crazy, not 'that good' a friend...no matter who it is, lol...good for you, to be so nice, though,...and yes, she had a nerve, and yes, she may not give up after this...did I leave anything out...oh, knew about the cane seat, bc I'm in the south...not sure it is a southern thing, but we do grow cane down here. splendiferous! there ya go

I love this design. It is really like an optical illusion which I love.
Beautiful work! :) I always have trouble getting things to line up when it is disected like that. Tho I haven't seen this design before. Love it!! :-)

By the way the cane refers to a cane seat in a chair and in some cane seats the reeds are woven so there are four sections where the reeds go from the outside into the middle to meet in the center. Your design is very like some I have seen. My mom used to be an antique dealer.

Love the colors. You did that faster than I would have. I would probably have given up(for the time anyway) and made something else for the friend.
    Hope the kitty is ok.

Wow-Melanie--you are doing an awesome job!! That is just soooo gorgeous. I don't think you could have found any better fabrics at a quilt shop-lovely "stash raiding".

This girl is a better friend than you are letting on--or at least she will be when you give her this. You will be her new BFF!!!!

I hope your kitty feels better. It is so sad when our furry friends are not well.

Thanks for all the encouragement, guys!

I will update tomorrow as I finish it, and thanks for all your kind words about my kitty, she seems to be doing better now. She's eating and drinking at bit, not driving me crazy at night and all without a trip to the vet (thank God, I totally cannot afford that right now!)

It is great, can I have one, just kidding..... Border it, bind it and be done!!!
Friends have no idea how long it takes or the expense. I would be willing to do them as long as they paid for the fabric and the quilting , but even when they hear those figures, they back down, forget your time. You did a wonderful job, Cindy
