Just count how many blocks are across the top and then how many are going down the top. Multiply those and you will get how many blocks are in the postage stamp top.

gypsylady5 the squares are 1.5" and finished at 1". the blocks she made were unfinished at 12.5" for a 12" finished block so my addition adds up to 144 stamps per block.

when you are planning the measurements of your quilt, if you plan to use 1" finished stamps, just multiply your quilt size by the size block and that should give you an idea of how many stamps it will take example: 54"x76" quilt equals 4,104 total inches and if you use 1" blocks you will need 4,104 stamps. i hope this helps explain.

Thank you. That's what I thought. My mother made one with almost 10000 stamps in it, so I can imagine the work this one was. She also hand did the whole quilt. It is the heirloom quilt that will be passed to my daughter who is to pass it down to her son and so on. The quilt has never been on a bed that I know of. We keep it in the cedar chest in a pillowcase. I should get it out and photo it for this board. It is beautiful. I can just imagine what is involved in making one of these quilts with all different squares. I wanted to do one at one time, but will probably never get to it. Thanks for sharing with us this wonderful quilt.

Oh my gosh. This is a quilt to behold. I started a dolly quilt. It will be 24" x 24". It makes my head hurt just to think of all the squares you cut and sewed. You did a beautiful job.
