Default Tortilla Strips quilt 3 years in the making

Hallo my quilting friends I've been working on my unfinished projects....the below is one of them.

Started this simple quilt for my grand daughter's 13th b day 3 years ago. Selected fabrics from my stash based on her choice of colors ( black, purple, gold and blue). Selected the simple quilt pattern in an effort to finish it in 1,2,3!
Even embroidered her quilt label which included a pair of flip flops because she loved wearing them.

Easy piecing but then came the quilting. There is so ,much negative space to play with so I embarked quilting it with no rhyme or reason randomly. Enjoying the opportunity to practice new fmq stitches. Then life got in the way and I dropped the ball.

CV happened and with plenty of time on my hands I have been watching YouTube quilt shows. My latest is The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims I am so impressed with what they have to offer. I learned abstract approaches to piecing from Ricky's demos that are to die for. Alex's demos too...excellent ones, in one she covered a brief review on ruler quilting and I was inspired to complete my granddaughter's quilt and I'm proud to share it is finally done.

Quilting on it is a mix of fmq and ruler quilting.

Oh yes.... I decided not to use the flip flop appliqued quilt label since she has outgrown the flip flop look. Decided for her sweet 16 birthday a French rose applique label is more suited. Dedication is on the stem of the rose.

Thank you for looking.
