my niece is in the Childrens Doll Quilt Swap.

She picked this pattern out of Quilt Sampler Fall/Winter 2009. I modified the pattern to a wall hanging size and then she wanted to embellish it with butterflies because she thought it looked to plain.

she did everything herself except - cutting the fabric and sewing on the bows.

she made the prairie points in the pinwheel blocks and even did all the quilting.

i taught her a quilt as you go method and i marked the designs with vanishing pen and she just traced right over them with thread.

we closed the quilt like you do a pillow because she's not ready for binding and mitered corners yet.

i've also attached a pic of the purse she made for mate in the swap. the fabric was given to me as a gift from luv2quilt on the forum.

i'm so proud of her - she's been sewing for just over a year now and its just amazing what she can do.

its going to be 3 posts of pics - so wait a few moments.

Wow, she's a superstar, rockstar!!!!!!!!!! Tell her she's got big fans out here in CA!! And she's so on time, which is more than I can say for my DD. She's running behind, but we've corresponded with her partner, so I think it's okay for now!

Way to go on this quilt kiddo, you must take after your auntie!

i put fusible on the butterfly fabric and cut them out for her.

then she ironed them on the quilt where she wanted them to go and she did a straight stitch to hold them down.

she doesn't know how to do free motion so she takes a few stitches and turns the quilt.

thats how she did the sun and the flower quilting - she'd take a few stitches and then turn the quilt and she just followed along the lines that i drew.
