Very pretty. I am curious though about the black fabric. How old was the fabric and how did you store the quilt? That is so bizarre that the fabric would disintegrate.

that's a lovely quilt! Sorry that you had so much trouble from the first black.

I really like the bright colors against the black. What a terrible thing for the original black to disintegrate. I wonder what caused it. I'm glad you finished the quilt because it is a beauty.

Stunning quilt! It's gorgeous! It might be big for my bed--but I can live with that

They put so much dye to make the fabric black that it can disintegrate the fabric--I've heard of this before. I prewash black. Kona cottons are nice.

I had a similar experience years ago, however, I don't remember where I bought the fabric, and of course it had to be the very first commissioned quilt. I had done a Roman Stripe pattern, and it was pretty. When my friend told me about the problem, I took it back, hashed and re-hashed how to repair the quilt, when I had an "Ah Ha" moment. I appliqued new black fabric on the blocks that had problems, then quilted over the square, to match the straight line quilting. The question I asked myself time and time again - "Why did it have to happen on my very first commissioned quilt, although after my "fix", he was happy, so that's all that counts.

It is beautiful. I wonder why the fabric would disintegrate. Was it stored for a long time or can you figure out why? Sure would be disappointing, though.
