I use a quilt on my table every day, but I do put plastic over it. It's much pretty than a vinyl tablecloth and the plastic you buy by the yard is thick and lasts a long time.

I make table cloths just like I make quilts......they are the size of baby quilts or lap quilts and I put batting in them, quilt them as usual and bind as usually do for quilts. I have used them on my table for years.....all seasons and prints. I have five grandchildren around a lot (4 which are toddlers from 9 mo to 4 yrs old) and the families eat here a lot. Don't worry about spills or stains cause they wash up beautifully. If something gets spilled that might stain, I just spray with spray and wash and throw it in machine. They look good as new when washed. If you make them, use them. I tell everyone I make quilts, etc for that they were made to use and not be afraid of washing them regularly.

These quilts aka tablecloths survived the bbq without any stains to clean up - now granted I wouldn't use these quilts for a 4 year olds birthday party! I just loaded all them up and also the new ones that I have finished and took a trip to the local laundry mat and was finished in no time.

I have two friends who make and use quilted table clothes. How is it any different that quilted place mats or cloth napkins? Just wash them as needed.

Beautiful. I think I would have had to put plastic over them.
