A Very Sad & Disappointing Story with A Happy Ending
#173
That really IS a happy ending. You know, we meet many young people today who really are that rude and obnoxious. She didn't deserve another quilt. The young mom-to-be who did get it will treasure it as a quilt deserves to be treasured. See how well things can work out? You did a beautiful job on the quilt, just beautiful.

When she opened it, she said "OH" and put it aside. Now this young lady is somewhat of a SNOT and I thought "hopefully she likes it". Well she continued to Ooh and Ahh over other various gifts and the knot in the pit of my stomach continued to grow. Afterwards, I was talking to her Mother and discovered the wedding quilt (memory quilt) I had made her resided at her Mother's as the young lady really didn't care for it, it didn't fit in with her black and chrome decor. So I went up to the young lady, holding my breath as I did, and asked her if the quilt matched her nursery and almost fell down with her reply " I had really hoped for a quilt off my registery, that's why we registered our gifts." Little rude ingrate... I told her I would take the quilt back and find her something else and she said "Oh would you...I really like the monkeys and jungle themes." So I took the quilt and thanked her Mother for being honest with me and left. And NO, I didn't get her another gift. Now for the happy ending...a young lady at work is due in a couple of weeks and being I was off for so long recovering from shoulder surgery, I was kinda out of the loop for the shower. I removed the label and added a new one, plus removed the binding and added a new one. I gave it to her yesterday and she loved it, and thanked me in tears. Obviously, this is where this little quilt was meant to be. It may not be my finest piece of work, but, I know it will be loved and used.

The bad news is that there is no cure for stupidity. The good news is that most people are reasonably bright. What a lucky mom and baby to get that lovely quilt. Glad you found where it was meant to be. froggyintexas

I am so sick of people who do not appreciate gifts that are given to them. Mind you, GIVEN to them. so many have grown up thinking that they are suppose to have everything they want and all of those friends and family around them HAVE to see that they have it. Wonder if this girl ever worries that some child in some country was forced to work to make the ready quilt she thought she should have.

I admire your courage in talking to the mom and "brat" about it. You brought your beautiful quilt home with you and waited until you found the perfect place for it to go. I'm going to remember your wonderful story the next time I find myself in a similiar situation - and anyone who gives many quilts away will find themselves in a similiar situation.

I made a quilt when my first GD was born a few yrs ago. My DIL was not overly thrilled with it - not rude but just got a "oh, that's nice. Thank you." I never saw her use it. Anyway, when my GD was about a year old she discovered the quilt in a drawer and has loved and dragged that quilt around ever since. It is her "special blankie". It was meant to be with her all along, her mother just didn't know it. LOL
