This big star block measures about 31" square. So now I just need to add a couple of borders and that is it. It may be a few days until I do them but I will post a pic afterwards so you can see it finished.

This was the important part to see in progress. You all know how to add borders already so no need to document that.

    The book is
big one-star quilts by magic (all lowercase)
    by Nancy Johnson-Srebro

and there are 14 different stars in 4 different sizes each. I used "wall hanging" size here and borders make it big enough for a baby. I used all flannels. This is a very forgiving method. There are very nearly no seams to match at all until you get to the last 4 blocks and then you just make sure the star edges are aligned.

Some of the stars get more complex and then of course there are more seams. I have done another one of them and it is at Charisma's being quilted now. I will post pics of my work and hers... when it gets here.

It SCARES me to think that a quilt designer has a brain that can plan in such a manner to design this process. It's really cool!! Sort of like your own little "mini-mystery"!

the whole idea is to take the scary out of stars! Everyone is so afraid of y-seams. This is stars out of squares and rectangles to make them simple. I love it!

I made two quilts from that book, that made me a believer they are the last two of them I will do. They are big stars
and much more than I want to do again. They turned out pretty. I took a couple of classes and only made 1/4 of it in class, I guess if you a long time quilter it is much eaiser.

Wow. I'm impressed. I've always been afraid to even try a star but you make it look easy. Please post which book this came out of.

This is the first star I did from that book. Charismah has quilted it for me. I turned out Oh so beautiful.

Now I just have to get brave enough to try this on a bed sized quilt.

    Oh, MaryAnna,
I'm sorry, I didn't work on it at all this weekend! I went to an auction and have been busy posting items on eBay for sale.

I am still on a see saw about the border too. I bought something but can't decide if I like it, guess I'll post on here and let ya'll decide if it works.

I've reserved a couple of this author's "magic" books from our library. They don't have the star one that you have, but I'm interested in what else she's thought up! Love it when I don't have to buy the book!

Thanks for the reminder. I just 'ordered' "STARS BY MAGIC" and "BLOCK MAGIC TOO". They didn't offer the one mentioned.
