Default First sojourn into the world of hexagons

I found this quite a challenge first of all because my daughter in law asked for a quilt with these colours which i might not have attempted to combine if left to my own devices. Also had a few head scratching sessions trying to sew them together while leaving accurate seam allowances and placing them correctly for the flower pattern to emerge. Also tried an amateurish attempt at something like trapunto with the gold heart shapes backed with some wadding before sewing them onto the brown hexagons. I used some of the off cuts from the hexagons to make the triangle border but only put these on three sides with the intention of giving the quilt a distinctive top and bottom. I think I also committed the ultimate quilting sin by machine sewing the binding with a decorative stitch rather than slogging with a needle and thread. As much as I enjoyed making the quilt I was jolly glad to see it finished so that I can move onto my next project

Using this little chap I've made to accompany the golly fabric

When I was a little girl (in the north) golly-wog dolls were very popular. Now they are "Politically Incorrect".
We traveled to England a few years ago and there they were!! Of course I had to buy one. I still think they are very cute. Now, please do not send hate mail.
