What to do for border?

Traditionally log cabins have a first very narrow--say an inch--of the center fabric. It always looks nice. BUT--I think yours would looks lovely with a border of blue or just a binding. It's so pretty--whatever you decide it's going to be a winner.

If it's the size you want I'd get some material that is the darker blue and bind it, if not you can put one or several borders on it as long as you keep to the same color family, it'll look fine. I really like it, you did a great job.

I agree with this thought. If the quilt needs to be larger to fit your bed, then add on a couple borders, if not make them skinnier. But bringing that dark pink/red out to the edge along with a dark blue would really frame it nicely, I think.Originally Posted by jojo47

This is my first picture i'm brave enouph to show, because I don't know what to do to finish it. I bought fabric from Walmart and now I can't get anymore, and don't have enouph to finish . Would it look dumb if I just put a binding around it or does it need a border?
Thank You

It would look nice with no border and just binding, but perhaps a narrow red border and a little wider dark blue border would really bring out the red in your center block. JMHO.

Did a screen shot of your square and put an arrow on the light blue fabric. I've seen this one at JoAnn Fabrics and they also have one in a darker blue that would work pick up the darker blue in the next strip so either one would work nicely to add a border all the way around and then to bind off. I do agree with the other ladies too though that you could just bind it off and call it good. It's a beautiful quilt and great colors. This is one of those personal preference things so decide and enjoy using it.

That light blue is very similar to a fabric called Fusions, can't remember who makes it but most LQS carry it. If I were working on this quilt, I would probably go with a 1-1/2" inside border of this light blue then go with about a 4-5" outer border of a dark blue. However, keep in mind, it's YOUR quilt. It will talk to you and let you know what it needs, if anything. There's no right or wrong quilts. Great job by the way !!Originally Posted by NoBetz
