I think it looks great. I would quilt some pretty medallions in the plain squares.

I like your layout very much. Maybe some star quilting in the solid blocks. If it were mine I'd use red/white/blue/ varigated thread. It adds alot of texture without being overwhelming. =) Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I would second the notion of doing colored blocks or 'piano keys' around the outside edge. I would make the red block sashings just a tad wider also but that is just me.

I think you are on the right track. You might use a darker blue for the solid squares , or darker blue for something in the center of the squares. Also, the half diamonds on the edges might have something in the center with the solid squares between your finished squares and the outside edge.

If you don't wish to turn your blocks into a quilt you could use two of them as a center piece mat and the remaining four for placemats, unless you have Need for six placemats. Another option is two table runners using three blocks in each, or what about a wall hanging. They are nice blocks, so many options. Would love to see your final product. Good luck, and have fun!

Now that I can see a layout I have a suggestion. If you number your blocks top row 1,2,3, 2nd row 45, 3rd row 6,7,8, etc. Now put 1 pieced block in #2, 6, 8, 11, 13, and 17. Use the light color you have for the setting triangles, a dark for the middle solids, and the light color for the center squares. Can't wait to see your finished quilt.

I would make two more of the spinning pin wheels looking blocks, and put them all on point on the outside rows and put your solid blocks on the inside... that would look really nice.. balance it out.

Here are a couple of more ideas, based on some of your suggestions. I think I like the one better with the blocks closer to the center--I think that would look better on a bed. Any more suggestions would be great. I love this group!

I think you're right. It sounded better in my head than it looks on the screen. Good luck!
