Default Wholecloth Quilt Finished

My other major achievement so far in 2017 is finishing off my wholecloth quilt which has been 27 years in the making.

I started hand quilting this wholecloth quilt 27 years ago and had done all the hand quilting but for one border and a bit borders. For the past 20 or so years it has been folded up and has sat at the back of a cupboard, I would get it out occasionally thinking I would finish it, look at it and put it back. A quilting friend who was machine quilting a wholecloth quilt visited earlier this year and I showed my quilt to her. But instead of putting it back away, I decided to finish it by machine quilting the remaining border. What a challenge that was to get this huge quilt under my Janome but the quilting was finally done. Binding attached.

Then came the dilemma of washing it and hoping that (a) the blue markings came out and (b) the hand quilting didn't fall apart. It was done by a dry cleaning company (with strict instructions from me) and after a 3 day wait, it came home and it was perfect.

So the next day I jumped online and bought another wholecloth quilt, a smaller one this time, which I will eventually machine quilt.

This is just amazing! I am in awe of anyone who handquilts, but to do a wholecloth quilt takes that to a completely different level.

I have always wanted to do a whole cloth, but like you mine would probably take 27 years, lol. So, I was fortunate enough to find at a flea market a pattern for whole cloth 16" blocks that are done QAYG style. Think I can manage that better and maybe get it done in 25 yrs instead, lol.

Your quilt is beautiful.
