Winter Peace - a Scrap Quilt

Made during multiple blizzards (nearly nine feet of snow in five weeks) and bitterly cold nights, I think this quilt has a restful look.

The star blocks were originally intended to be a border on another scrappy quilt containing Jacob's Ladder blocks. After making all my blocks and laying them out, I decided that the two block types weren't as complimentary as I would have liked. There was just too much going on and it was distracting! I changed my plans and made a quilt out of just the star blocks (this one), and will make a quilt just with the Jacob's Ladder blocks later.

Lots of "misfit" fabrics here: stripes, checks, plaids, old calicoes, etc.

You did a great job with an old traditional pattern especially using up your scraps.

i agree, this is a softly restful collection of color and design. i particularly love the way you used your miasma of "misfit" fabrics -the mix of checks, plaids, cw etc all give the look of very old & very beautiful vintage quilt. i also love love your quilting motif. elegant, simple, so fitting for this delicate & lovely quilt!

You did a lovely job on this quilt. I have thought about those of you enduring these blizzards etc. It is nice to see that you turned your time in to something so beautiful.

Very calming indeed, just like the effect of a blanket of snow (well, the first foot of it anyway!). You really have an eye for color and print mixing. Although we didn't see your layout with the Jacob's ladder added, I think you made a good call with keeping the repetition of one block. The old-fashioned simplicity with those old fabrics is just so soothing.

Amazing quilt, love it. and the quilting is great too,
put off till tomorrow what you can do today, and if you procrastinate long enough, you may never have to do it.

I really like it!!! Love all the different fabrics, would be fun if they were from family clothes and you could reminise (?). I love the quilting you did on the blocks too! The blocks pattern looks fairly simple--is there a name for them? Or maybe what size each small block and the final block is?
