Default Wool quilt - Grandad's Gifts

I made this quilt with my grandad's woollen clothing. The check is from woollen shirts and the grey is from woollen trousers he wore. Wool was by far his favourite thing to wear to keep warm but that meant some of the bits were had holes and I had to twist a little. The border is cord which I have had for years but hadn't used and it reminds me of grandad's cord trousers which were too worn out to use in this quilt. My grandad died about 6 years ago now and I have had his clothing since then to do something with. The words Home and Family were his two most important gifts to me and I thank him for them. This quilt makes me think of his warmth and love. I quilted it by hand and now just have to hand sew the binding. I'm really glad I finally did it! Although not technically brilliant this quilt holds very special meaning.

This is a very special "heirloom" for you. I hope there is a label reflecting when you made it ,etc. I guess I am just too sentimental.

How wonderful that your grandfather left you such a legacy of love for home and family, it is a precious keepsake.
I'm sure it would have honored him and made his smile to know you created such a treasure because of your love and memories of him. Considering how well things were made in his time, the quilt should live on a long time.

I agree--it will mean more to your kids/grandkids if there is a label. Great job. Thanks for sharing.
