Love your avatar quilt...can you send it? (ha, ha). IMHO, I would go with a blue, darker with the same value as the red but maybe a bit of a print. Please post when finished!!!

I don't see orange in any of the bliocks. I would use something you have featured in blocks, perhaps a med blue. Or else I'd skip the border.
