Actuallly, it is not hard at all...just having the patience and will to do it...I think hand quilting requires a lot more skill.

I too once made the hexagons, and have a pile of them waiting to assemble some day... I made my hexagons from old plastic margarine lids. I just made one and traced it and made lots. Put a round hole in the center to be able to pull them out when finished...Actually folded squares of fabric around them, stitched the ends down, then whip stitched them together, and when a flower was done, removed the plastic pieces and pressed -- tada!

My first quilt was a grandmothers flower garden all hand pieced. I love to hand piece. Your pieces are very pretty.

Plenty of free templets to print online. then you can use the papers or make your own like someone above said out of plastic. I got ahold of quilt patties at a yard sale they are great.

I really enjoy hand piecing as well as embroidery. I took my redwork embroidery on a plane trip. I had a 5 hour lay over in LAX. I sat there doing my embroidery at the gate they told me to go to. Time went so fast that suddenly I looked at my watch and it was nearly time to leave. they had changed the gate, time had gotten away from me. I got to the newly assigned gate just in time for the last call. Yes, I was quite engrossed in my hand work...It is relaxing and makes the time go by so fast.

Wonderful, esp. the combo of a classic pattern with these modern style fabrics!
