Welcome! I always thought a comforter is what you buy at the store. A quilt can be sewn by hand or machine. So, you are a quilter. jmo :)

Hello and welcome from Arkansas! I have to agree comforters are what you purchase from the store. I machine quilt all of mine or tie them. It still makes me a quilter.

The difference between a quilt and a comforter is that a quilt is pieced, where a comforter is not. Go to the bedding dept of most any store and look at the comforters. None are pieced, but made from all one BIG piece of fabric.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello, welcome and happy quilting from Germany!

Well, my quilts are not pieced - except the seams where I sew length of fabric together - because I make handquilted wholecloths. I also call them quilts! ;)
