When sewing block pieces together we press as as we go along so that the seams lay flat and match up. We sew the blocks into rows and Alternate the direction of seams in the rows. All is good, right?

But then when the rows of blocks are sewn together and the seams in some blocks are in the same direction as the previous rows block, this makes me crazy, do you re-iron seams in different direction so that they lay flat or not?

It seems like I always end up with one or two that are twisted in the middle. I press them flat. I know it shows up on the front (a little). Others will probably take it out and resew, but I have a hard enough time getting anything done, so, as long as you notice it from a galloping horse it is good for me! I used to try clipping them, but that does not make it look any better, and probably weakens the seam...

I just finger press the seam the other direction and then clip it witha pair of scissors so it'll lay flat when quilted!

If I can, I try to stagger the seam allowances, both for the sake of the weight and because the seams line up really well if you can push those s.a.s against each other. (They sort of lock.) But if I get done sewing a seam, and find out some came out pointing in the wrong direction, I usually just press flat and let it go. Once in a blue moon I might cut the seam open with a blade and then re-sew with the s.a. lying in the other direction. I guess it depends on my mood and how much time I have.

I clip it, press, and then sew.

Yup, me too. This is an easy fix to me, lays flat and no one will see it anyway. ♥

try pressing your rows seperately. the first row all seams are pressed to the right, the second row all seams are pressed to the left and so on. just make sure when piecing your quilt that you do not change your mind in row placement. otherwise your seams might be going the same way.

When I sew my rows, I try real hard to press the next row so the seams will nest. Most of the time I miss some or sew it to the wrong side - grrr. Drives me crazy too.
