I am new to this site, and hoping to glean some great advice from experienced quilters! I live in Vancouver, Washington and really enjoy hand piecing. I can't imagine machine quilting after hand piecing a top so I'm now ready to practice hand quilting on two twin sized tops I've finished and then I'll start in on my king sized grandmother's flower garden!

Welcome to the Board from Peoria, Arizona. Think you'll find out after hand-quilting a twin size that you will really need muscle power to tackle a king size. Unless you learn to quilt in a frame and also how to quilt in different directions. I'm hand-quilting a queen-size in a hoop right now and that thing sure does get heavy! I'm working on the innermost of three borders and can only work for a few hours before my arms and back start "talking to me," and I have to rest for an hour or so before I can continue. But then again, I am no youngster and my age might have something to do with it! I have no plans to hand-quilt something this large again - unless I do the quilt as you go method. LOL

Hello, and welcome from Idaho!

Thanks Jan, I do plan to quilt it on a wood frame and unfortunately I don't have several hours a day to quilt, so I'm hoping I won't suffer too much! I will definitely need to practice quilting in all directions, because the hexagonal design will keep me quilting around and around in all directions!

Welcome from New Hampshire. There is a quilter here from Germany who only does handquilting of wholecloth quilts. Her talents are extraordinary. I'm sure you can learn a lot from her and many of the other wonderful quilters here.

Welcome from Delaware. I hand quilt sometimes, and love it. You'll see some nice work here on the board.
