I learned to sew on my mother's first sewing machine, a refurbished Singer treadle. She told me that a salesman came around to their house with some sewing machines in the back of his pickup truck. Daddy traded him several gallons of syrup he had made for the machine. In the 1960s she bought a newer treadle machine from the high school when they upgraded to electric machines. Mother never had an electric machine. I still have the first machine, my sister has the second one, and both sew great!

I learned on electric at home, but made dresses for my grandmother on her treadle while visiting her. She was a hand quilter and didn't like to take the time to sew apparel for herself. At the time, I thought that was strange, but now I understand.

I didn't exactly learn to sew on a treadle machine but my grandma had one and I used to run the treadle for her at times. I never forgot it. It disappeared over time but I now have a beautiful red-eye treadle that I sew on whenever I am not in a hurry to get things done. I love it and it brings back wonderful memories.

I have happy memories of learning to sew on the treadle.

My grandma only let me use the treadle to learn on to sew... She was afraid I would sew my finger on her electric machine. What wonderful memories I have... I still have her machine...

I learned on my grandmother's treadle. I was the GD who sewed, so she said it was mine after she was gone. She was 99 when she passed and the machine was moved with her to my parents a few years before she died. Have to still figure out how to do the shuttle bobbin.

I learned to sew on my Grandmother's treadle. My sister has it now. Now that is a true antique.

my grandmother taught me on her New Home treadle machine - which I now own. It still works, and brings back many many memorable moments.

I made my first quilt on grandma's treadle machine in 1974, She had had it for many years. I must say I could at one time make that thing sing :)

My cousin and I learned to sew on grandma's treadle sewing machine when we were very young- in the 60's. We were probably turned loose with it sooner than we should have been as I can remember Brenda running the treadle while I ran the material at the same time and getting my finger sewed!
