I think my iron is going out. Does anyone have any advice on a good iron at a reasonable price? I'm on a strict budget and can't afford any of the really, really expensive ones that do everthing but move themselves. I think I actually saw one lift itself up off the ironing board on a quilting show once. Anyways any advice will be helpful.

Irons are available at Dollar General stores for approx. $6.

That would be an Oslio (spelling?) and they are not in-expensive. I've heard both opinions and it seems they either hate it or love it, not much in between. I love my Rowenta and there is a nice price range in the models. Bed Bath and Beyond has them and you can use one of their coupons to get a percentage off, I think. (sometimes irons are excluded from sales)

A very good quilter in our guild was fed up with Rowenta. She asked around for recommendations and announced to all of us at the last meeting that she was very pleased with the Rival iron at Walmart - around $9. Go figure.

I've got the $10 Forget-the-name iron from Walmart. It's more than sufficient for my needs. I do quilt tops, doll clothes, and special outfits for my DDs.

When I replace my iron I'm going to get the dry iron at Home Depot. They have it online. Super cheap irons tend to be very light weight and it takes more work on your part to get wrinkles out.

I replaced my iron because it had a spot on the plate. i got a Black and Decker at Walmart, which I love(About $16). I also have a craft iron. When I was in the Salvation Army, I bought a Rowenta for $6. I plugged it in at the store.
I like the B&D because you can see the water in it and it shuts off when not in use. I hope you find something you like.

my $10 black & decker wally world iron has worked wonderfully for me for 4 1/2 years now- no signs of quiting-
i had a $139 iron that worked (ok) for about 3 months- i have another one of those in my closet- new-still in the box- will probably be there till i'm gone- the $10 iron is so much better than that heavy- spitting- sputtering pain in the...expensive iron.
my daughter is still (been 10 years now) using a really old iron she picked up at a yard sale for $1...now that's a great iron!

Cheap irons work just a well as the expensive ones. If you drop an expensive it breaks just like the cheap one.
