In preparation for my upcoming hip replacement surgery, I got my flu shot today at my Kroger pharmacy. Needle-less! A new one on me. A special instrument actually uses a blast of air to inject the substance through the skin. Just a bit of a sting, sort of like a really good pin prick.
He did tell me that about 20% of people this year seem to be getting a skin reaction to the shot given this way. And I already know I'm one of them. :( My arm itches pretty good at the site, I'm trrying so hard not to scratch it. Took an anti-histamine earlier today, but forgot to ice it when I got home. I'm now thinking about how I can protect it from unconscious scratches during sleep. :? Anyone else gotten their flu vaccine by needle-less technology? Jan in VA |
Can you put a band-aid over it? Never heard of needle-less but why didn't they have those for my babies?
|
yep, put one of those patch style bandaids.

Don't know about the new flu vaccine. Went from a simpler shot to one with all kinds of stuff in it! Isn't it just a guess in what it protects u from? Do u get one every year? If u have compromised immune system has it caused a problem???

I work in a health care facility and I will be getting my flu shot at work sometime in October...we have 3 possible dates, early, mid and late in the month, and I am thinking I will do the later one. We have the choice of the shot, or nasal dose, but nothing like this air shot. Will have to ask the nurses at work what they know about it.

Haven't got mine yet.
|
Next week it is on my list--think I'll just get the needle though.
|
I tried it once and my arm felt like someone had punched me. Now I stick to needles.

Aha! Our Star Trek future has arrived! :) Hurrah!

sounds a bit risky i dont like the flu vaccine period but also dont like the idea off being injected with air. if the person injecting it dosent know what they are doing they could get it into a blood vesele and cause a stroke or other problems. just something to think about.
