I have been reading the board for about a week now and have a question. I have been quilting on and off for over 30 years. I prefer to do everything by hand, piecing and quilting as I find it a great way to relax. Sometimes I am pushed for time so I will sew the blocks on the machine and finish assemblying the top by hand.

I just finished a beautiful queen sized Log Cabin top in shades of greens and tans with the traditional red square for the heart of the home. It is for my son's bed as a Christmas present. I did the block arrangement as Barn Raising. I was going to tie it and just quilt on the borders, but it turned out so nice I have decided to go ahead and do a full quilting motif on it.

Now I am looking for a quilting motif that will fit a 12" block. I have seen a four pointed star somewhere, but can not find it online tonight. Does anyone have any suggestions for what will look good on a Log Cabin block? The strips are 2" wide and I do not want to stitch in the ditch. Please remember that I am hand quilting it.

Thanks for the tips or links or whatever.

Linda

Welcome aboard Goatlady77 from the Bay Area of California!

Do you have a preference for type of quilting motif? You could do feathers, geometric blocks, Celtic knots, waves, or other fun patterns like sunflowers, weaving hearts, stars, leaves, or pretty much anything you want that fits into a 12" square. Or you can do a continuous roll or weave that ties the lights together and the darks together in your log cabin to highlight the Barn Raising pattern.

Why not show us a picture and we can help you to decide?
