My Newest Find

I had been struggling trying to find a marker, pen pencil that would show up good on the fabrics. A coworker that also quilts told me about Pilot Brand Frixion Erasable pens. Said she got them at a quilt show however, Staples also carries them (I'm sure other office supplies places do also. I got the 3 pack last night and I have to say I love these things. They make a nice clear crisp line that makes it easy to hand quit. Then the lines disappear when you apply the iron. They also have a 6 pack , 8 pack, single and double (Single and double only are in black) But I have to say I love these things. I have purchased a ton of pencils, and markers and none of them work that great or the lines are real light and smudged and with hand quilting I felt I needed that nice crisp line to follow.

I tested them on several pieces of fabric last night both light and dark and gone as soon as the iron touched it.

I haven't tried these yet, but one one of my groups I read some qualifiers about them. It may have been here. I'll check and if it is on my other group, I'll copy and post. Best to take advantage of others testing too. If they really are that great I'll run some tests on them too. I'm always looking for a better way to mark.

I agree I absolutely love these and my mom uses them to mark her patterns for hand embroidery. I didn't realize that Staples also carried them thanks for that info. the only thing I have heard is that the markings can come back in the cold - I think it was 20 degrees or if you put it in the freezer. If my quilt is ever out in 20 degree weather I can bet the last thing anyone would be thinking of is seeing the marking

They were recommended to my by my local quilt store, so I bought one. Love, love it. Then I bought the 8 pk, thru my local office supply store. They had them on sale for $16.84. Now I have all the colors, and I could not be happier. They just work for me.

They say the best thing to do is iron out then wash... I haven't tried it yet with the washing..

Fons and Porter recommends these pens too. I bought a set from Amazon that has more colors. I have read some nays about these pens; it's a chemical, the lines come back ( if in freezing temps and the item hasn't been washed), on some fabric a faint line is left after ironing (it fades away in a few hours). I use them and think they are wonderful.

The marks will come back in really cold areas. I figure that my quilts aren't going to be getting that cold but just to let you know. Test them by putting fabric in the freezer after you've ironed away the marks and watch the marks come back. Kids love them for secret games. They do have lots of colors available.
