Does anyone have a suggestion for a border around a picture?

Hi fellow Quilters,

First I want to say how much I love reading all your posts and seeing all of your pictures of beautiful quilts. I am addicted to The Quilting Board! My day isn’t complete unless I’ve visited the Board at least 4 times! You’ve all been such an inspiration to me. I learned how to sew in a home economics class in 4th grade and have been sewing for many years. The QB has given me a new appreciation for sewing and quilting. Thanks to the QB, I’m organizing my fabrics (and I have a lot!) and plan to start my first real quilt soon. I’ll need suggestions latter for how to find a LAer!

I am looking for suggestions for what type of border to use around a picture of my parents that is on a t-shirt. I plan to stabilize the t-shirt fabric then cut the picture into a block. I want surround the block with some type of interesting border and was wondering if any of you have any suggestions for which border would look the best. The t-shirt color is a light mint green. I was planning on turning the finished block into a pillow or maybe a wall hanging with the finished block. Not sure yet.

I’m going to give this to my parents as a gift when I see them on September 15, 2012.

Here's a photo of the t-shirt I plan to use:

Hi there, If the T-shirt is mint green, how about a dark green or yellow. I think I would use a print though.

Mint green with black or grey flying geese border. Piano keys with like colors and one 'pop' color.

Keep the eyes on your parents. Keep the border calm.

I agree with barney. Keep your eyes on your parents. They are so darn cute!!!! I love her hairdo. Very good looking couple.

Can reproduce the photo again onto a different fabric ... muslin perhaps. That would be more stable than the jersey knit.

Agree with the others to keep the focus on Mom and Dad with simple borders. Blacks, whites, and greys - and if you use the T-shirt ... use the mint green as a binding.

You CAN use some fairly intricate pieced borders to really frame Mom & Dad but use borders that will point toward the center drawing the eye inward.

something with gold in it for the big 50. Browse your local quilt shop or JoAnns until something speaks to you. Good Luck!

It looks like 1950's...maybe use some old hankies from the era and add them in a pattern over a solid color?
