I've just done piecing this top. I used the stack n whack technique in the Maxine Rosenthal book, One Block Wonders. It was really fun to do, but I'm not sure I really like it - I think I should have had a fabric with a larger motif in it and a longer pattern repeat - hence my moaning and whining on the lurcher fabric thread! I buy my fabric online and most sites don't tell you size of print and length of pattern repeat - when you have to order 4 or 5 yards, you don't want to make a mistake!

Anyway, maybe it will look better with a border, but what kind? Opinions please! Plus, I've no idea how to quilt it!

Pansy kaleidoscope top (it's the same fabric that Rhonda used a while back - I think hers were more striking as individual blocks but I wanted to make a full kaleidoscope quilt as per my book's instructions!)

Here's a pic of the original fabric and the book I used - I didn't use the template in the end because it was for octogans and i did hexagons - I thought it would be easier to start as there are no gaps to fill!

Actually, it looks better in the picture than in real life! LOL

I love your One Block Wonder quilt. Yes, some of the bigger and bolder prints do show off the pattern more, BUT it's always nice to see a subtle soft version.

For the boarder I would pull one of the bolder colors. Me being a red lover, that is the direction I would go. But the blue could be interesting to. OR do a small blue then a wider red/wine/burgundy (it's hard to tell which shade you have).

As far as quilting.... hmmm not sure. Maybe just a all over meandering.

Wow, I like it! If it needs a home send it to me!

Thank you for the compliments, I'm glad you like it, I'm still not sure. The quilts in the book were so striking, I want to make another one asap with bolder fabric! I like your idea of red for the border - it's kind of a raspberry or plummy red.

I agree, it's fantastic. I have that same book, I even have some fabric to use for the kaleidoscopes, but haven't had time.
How long did it take you to make all those and put them into the quilt?

I like it! I like the idea of a red border to bring out the color. You might want to have multiple solid color borders, and then a wider border of the main fabric. I LOVE these!
