SPATS The "new" rage...
My sis asked me to make her a pair of spats. She gave me a couple examples by one designer that is popular now.
Has anyone else made any yet? Here is a link I googled to see what people are wearing now. They say to use men's suiting as the fabrics. http://www.google.com/search?num=10&....1.lGrHV_q9Ohc |
Elegant leg warmers.

This is the first time I have heard of them. Very interesting. Good luck with getting your answer.

Spats have been around along time - must be coming back in to style...lol.

Those are gorgeous spats!! No ... I did not know they were coming back into vogue but it makes sense with the whole steampunk thing going on .. and spats are a fantastic idea ... 1 pair of shoes ... so many possibilities!!

DGD bought a pair at a boutique. By the time I made her a pair in a different color she said they were every where now and she wasn't wearing them. LOL . I think they are adorable for the young girls. I used the Pellon iron on heavyweight interfacing and heavy brocade fabric I found in drapes at the Goodwill. I added the lace to use as eyes for the shoe laces. Very easy to do.

I remember in my favorite book, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," the main character's brother who was 10 years old desperately wanted a pair for Christmas. The time period of the story was approximately 1915.

I have never heard of them before, but these are beautiful!

You did a wonderful job! I am thinking she is maybe into the Steam Punk movement and everything Victorian is very popular. Google Steam Punk costumes and you will see some of the accessories and outfits.
