Double Needle
They rock. Just learned how to use one. Don't think I will sew a hem without one!

You an get a really nice effect when doing fancy stitches.
Also, a great way to do double rows of top stitching ... or a double when quilting. Did you know you can get triple needles too? :) |
I've had my Janome for years and have yet to use my double needles. even bought more.
|
i've always been afraid to use mine... that i might pull too hard and break the needle or hit the faceplate.
|
I forgot I have a double needle. Have never tried it. Thanks!
|
I just used mine for the first time, and I've been sewing over 45 yrs......my sister-in-law's mom wanted some pullover blouses shortened, and I cut them off and hemmed them with the double needle, and you couldn't tell they had been altered! Boy was I impressed!

If you like the double and triple needles you will possibly like the combination wing needles and plain needles set as doubles.
|
I saw an episode of Sewing with Nancy...she suggests when threading the needles that one thread come off a spool in one direction and the other unwind in the opposite direction. I have played with my double needle but have never tried a hem.

VanGinney ... another did you know? ... there are doubles with different spacings |
They are really great for hemming knits. Everyone is so impressed that I sewed it twice and the spacing between the rows is perfect.lol Then I show them that it's a double needle. I always use wooly nylon in the bobbin for the stretch.
