Need some block suggestions!

I found the idea for this quilt on a scrapbook website, its called the Dahlia Cross(if anyone wants the name of the site, please pm me, there are great directions there on the site). I just modified the instructions to fabric and fused medium weight interfacing to one layer of fabric, in place of the double sized paper used in the instructions. I used a dinner plate for the larger circle( its the lower piece) and the other three were cake plate size circles.
I'm wanting to use several different cross block designs for a border around the red base fabric. I made a sample yo-yo for the center of the cross but I think it needs to be larger and so I had to buy a different blue print fabric to have enough for the blocks. I checked Quilter's Cache and couldn't find anything, I was hoping some of you might have some recommendations. I wanting to use something a little different and unique not like the nine-patch cross. Something that when you step back, you see the cross shape. I would appreciate any suggestions, I'm donating the wall hanging to my Sunday School class. They have been such good friends, thought this would be a good way of saying thank you! Chris

There is the Night and Day Block. How big is your red fabric?

Thank you for the comments, when I saw the photo on Pinterest of the paper-folded cross I knew that I had to try making a quilt with the cross. I'm thinking about making the red base fabric a 24"x36. Maybe 6" blocks might work. The Day and Night block is very nice and is the kind of block I'm looking for. What size is the block?

Hi Chris, My block is 12.5" now, so when sewn into a quilt it will be 12". I think it called Night and Day II on Quilters Cache, but as we know, blocks can have a multitude of names.

Know about the multitude of names and it can be so confusing sometimes. I have Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Quilt Patterns, had checked it once but only looking for "cross" titles, but didn't think about what other names might be. Will spend the evening checking it again!

Oh, my goodness! Both blocks are gorgeous!

I found a block in Barbara's book called Three Cheers but its a Farm Journal pattern. I'm going to post another question to see if anyone knows where I might find patterns that appeared in the Farm Journal, I did a search but nothing specific came up.

The cross is gorgeous. I am also going to try the night and day block. Thank you both for posting the pictures.
