When I started receiving my FQs from the "mare stare", I knew I wanted to make a quilt for me. :D And, I wanted a pattern that I could use most of the material in. I had made a mini from this pattern a while back, and fell in love with the way it goes together, so it was perfect for what I wanted.

Here are the steps I have taken so far:

for each 4"I used 2 3" squares of fabric and 1, 4.5" square of old fashioned unbleached muslin.

The quilt is made up of 16 4" squares sewn into 1 16" block.

As of now the quilt measures 48" I think I want to add one more row, which means I will need 64 more 3" blocks, 32 pair, and 32 more muslin blocks..

Then I will have to decide what type of border to put on. I have several small blocks from the leftovers of trimming up the squares, and here is some of the ways I can place them together. So, please help me decide what border to place on. :D

Love your fat quarter quilt!!! That is just gorgeous! I'm not really good with borders though I think the top left one would be nice!

That's going to be great!! The muslin makes the scrappies look like beautiful jewels.

I hope you don't mind me asking for tips on how to do the scrappy corners. I use this method to make snowball blocks. No matter how careful I am to mark the diagonal line and sew on it, the corner pieces are sometimes' off '--a bit too small or a bit too big.. Do you have any tricks for making sure they are accurate? Hope I explained it clearly enough.

What a nice pattern! Have you ever tried it with the opposite color arrangement? Meaning, use the white (or lights) for the corners, and the prints for the center? I'd be interested in seeing that.

I am very careful when marking the line, making sure it is straight and from corner to corner. And then I pin it, making sure the tops and the corners are just right on. And then I go slow , making sure I stay on the line. Sometimes I still have one turn out wrong, and instead of trying to fix it, I lay it aside and start all over. If it turns out too big you can trim.
I love getting those corners wright, but sometimes it just don't work out that way. Do try pinning, I am a big believer in pinning and making sure my material can't slip.

The whole time I was working on it, my mind was going strong with what ifs. :lol: :lol: What if I make the background navy blue and then did the corners in light blues, or what if I used solid black and then jewel tones around it, or what if I used a paisley and then solid colors on the corners. :lol: :lol: I love playing around with new ideas , and I think it would look great with a dark background, just getting the right balance is going to be the big thing. Would love to see you do it!! :D :D Just think how pretty the quilting would be on a dark blue background!

Thanks for the tips. I do pin so perhaps the problem lies with sewing too fast--I do have a tendency to do that. LOL. I also find it difficult to start off--that is, to get the needle right on the line when I start. I've overcome that a bit by chain-piecing or using a scrap piece before sewing. .
