Time to sandwich - not my favorite thing to do.
 

I have made several hundred quilts and still like most of it. Why do I dislike the sandwich part? Tops done. Back is done. And the batting is ready. Ugh! Gotta get this part done so I can finish. I love the designing of, love the piecing, like the quilting, love the binding. So why can't I at least tolerate the sandwich? I have basted with needle and thread, safety pins, pinmoors, spray basting, Elmer's glue. Still not found my niche with this must do task. Any suggestions to get me moving?

That is my least favorite part too. Using the boards helps alot! I use this method with spray, not hand basting though. Check out this post by azwendyg:

I don't mind at all basting with Elmer's School Glue. It's fast and easy. Having a large enough work surface is the key. I bought three 6' x 3' tables that fold in the middle at Lowes. They are easy to store and set up when I need a large flat surface.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll give this a try, everyone that responded on the thread liked the method. Could it be possible to like sandwiching a quilt?

Isn't there always something that is a pain to deal with?? I never liked to cook. It is not the prep or the cooking, but I hate the clean up. :)

Once I found spray basting, I said I'd never go back. It helps to have a friend helping, though. Usually my mom or my husband gives me a hand with basting. With two people working, and spray basting, it goes lickedy-split and doesn't seem a chore at all. Then comes the fun part: quilting!

I LOATHE basting ... but the boards did make it a lot easier.

A tip for you - if you decide to use the boards. Use water soluble thread to baste. You don't have to take it out at all, can quilt over it with no problem. If one of the threads snags on your foot - no problem, just snip it and leave it there.

And another tip - if catching the basting thread on the FMQ foot, baste from the back of the quilt. The stitches are much smaller on the back side (which will now be the front side.

But I loathe basting so much ... I bought a long arm!

Believe it or not, hating to sandwich the quilt was one of the reasons I bought a longarm.

i love long arming much better than basting, as well :thumbup:

BOOOO! HISS HISS! :) just jokeing lucky gals....maybe one day for me I'd be happy with a sit down but that would still mean sandwiching I don't like it either
