First Green machine

DH got this in trade, he's fixing up a 1918 - 99K in exchange. The 99K needs re-wiring and a really good cleaning, but is in very nice shape overall.

When we bought the Wards machine at the antique shop last weekend, we got to talking to the proprietor, and she got all excited to find someone that would work on these old machines. She lives over 100 miles away, and was willing to make the trip to get her beloved 99K in usable condition.

I also got my belt pliers in the mail today. Not genuine Simanco, but a nice vintage Bernard pair for round belts. Works really well on the treadle belts too.

Is that a Singer 185? I do like the looks of that one.

I have one of these (185) and it's a cute machine. Funny that she traded it to repair her 99, because to me, the 185 is the same machine only wearing make up:>

Rodney,

Yes, I believe that it is a Singer 185. As far as I know, Singer made those 185s in "K"s and "J"s, Kilbowie Scotland and St Jean Canada, respectfully. Folks usually refer to the 185 as the "99 in a new dress", since it's essentially the same workings as a Singer Model 99. I can't tell from the photo is it's a "K" or a "J". Macy.....?

Here are photos of a “K” (that I sold) and a “J” that have in this Singer Model 49 Cabinet holding my computer monitor up in front of me. The handcrank is the “K”.

I'ts a K - and yes - a 99 in new clothing - except that this one is about 50 years younger than the one she wants to keep Hers is in a nice, old bentwood case. It has the old style bobbin winder and the stitch length knob with no reverse. I think she loves the look of the black one, and also knowing it's age.

One of my favorite machines is my late model 99k with the double slot stitch plate with reveres. That one really is just like this 185K in a different dress.

That's a beautiful green. I bought a green machine yesterday, too. Not as pretty but I couldn't help myself.

I guess this is not DH's first green machine, I forgot about his Viking 21A and his 21E.

But it is the first green Singer we have.
