Janome 8900 Pricing?
 

Our local Janome shop is changing hands & the current owner is having an inventory reduction sale. All fabric except the ones just arrived are $7-$9 per yard, which is OK. She has also marked down the machines. 8900 QCP is $3,000, 8200 QCP is $2500, 6600 is $1900. I've had an MC900 for 8 yrs that I purchased used & would like to update to a larger harp since I do try to do all my own quilting & Q & K quilts
are a bit of a struggle. I'm leaning towards the 8900 since it includes the acrylic table. How do these prices sound to those of you who have Janome's?? Thanks for your help. Vickie:confused:

The price doesn't sound too bad. The sewing space between feed dogs gives you 9mm width (I believe) and the lower numbered machine give you 7 mm. If you don't have much interest in embroidery or decorative stitches, the 7 mm should do you. The table only runs a little over $100.00 so it's not too painful to buy it extra. Let us know what you decide.

I think that is pretty high. Paid 1699.00 for my 6600. And I looked at the 8900 at my lqs and don't really remember the price, but I don't think it was that high. Think it's all pretty high being it's a "reduction sale". Just my opinion, sorry.

I just bought the 8900 beginning of January. It was a demo and I paid $2499 plus tax, including the acrylic extension table. New he wanted $3299. I don't think your price is too terrible. I have had the 6600 for 4 years and it's a great machine but if I was quilting queens and kings, I would definitely buy the 8900. The extra harp space is worth it. Plus I find it much easier to FMQ on the 8900. The 6600 was a nightmare to FMQ on. I LOVE the 8900. Originally I was going to sell my 6600 after getting the new one but it's pretty usual for piecing when I'm in the middle of quilting! Let us know what you decide.

i love my 8900, so i'm sure you wouldn't regret getting one.

i paid nowhere near $3k for mine, but i got it at a quilt show at a special price.
most dealers stick pretty close to the manufacturer's suggested retail price ($3,999), so finding one who sells for less is not easy.
the only way to find out whether or not it would be a good deal for you would be to call around to all janome dealers within a driving radius you'd be willing to travel.

With cash in hand, no trade, no financing, offer the $2499 with the Table. They can always reject the offer.

Find out if the new owner will cover the old shop owners warranty. "Oh Sure" isn't an answer, ask the new owner yourself.
If you can't get a promise from the new owner, wait until they take over the shop and sell old inventory ;)

the 8900 is a great machine, but like all computer machines today it will not last your life time. technology changes too fast and it isn't long before you can't get parts, particularly motherboards. Take the long view vs. the short view for your purchase.

I too have been pricing the 8200 and the 8900 in my 3 fairly local dealerships. One store quoted MSRP minus 30%. Another store was slightly less and the third would not discuss price and would have to order the machine. It has been suggested that the foot control on the 8200 is rather flimsy but the 8900 could be ordered for it at a cost of about 89.00 and the acrylic extension table can be ordered on line for $109 plus S&H. Now comes the part I hate the most... haggling over further discounts and the extras that might sweeten the deal. Unfortunately, my 3 week bout of the H1N1 flu has stopped me in my tracks so I will be watching this thread with great interest.

Thanks Ladies. I would check with another shop but the closest is about 3 1/2 hrs away over a few mountain passes. 2nd is 4-4 1/2 hrs. I guess I'll have to try some bargaining even though I'm terrible at it. I went to town last Sat. to look at the 6500 & the 8900. Did a test drive on the 8900 (lovely!) & another woman & her daughter came in & did the same
thing.:rolleyes: Durango is a small mtn town. It's also a college & tourist town which seems to create higher prices. The original price on the 8900 was $5,000!. A little more investigating is in order. Thanks again. Vickie
